I’d never been to the dentist in the UK and I was very excited to register at James Millar Dental Surgery based on their reviews online. After the initial check up I was advised that there was a minor decay on one of my teeth but it was so small that the dentist actually suggested to leave it for another 6 months and see if it would develop any further (first time I’ve ever been advised to neglect a decay). I must say that apart from my gums bleeding and having bad breath every now and then I had no pain or other complaints. If I was trying to combat the bad breath, I thought that having a rotting tooth for another 6 months didn’t sound like a good idea, so I opted for a filling. As soon as the anaesthetic wore off I could feel very strong sharp pain (you know what nerve pain feels like when you have it) and I knew that something wasn’t right. I’d read online that it could be a case of extra sensitivity after the filling, so I tried to give it some time but the pain was unbearable and after 2 days I went back to the dentist. The filling was pretty low, so they suggested changing it with a new filling which happened on the same day and free of charge. Again, after the anaesthetic wore off I could feel pain, duller and less intense than the first time but still bad enough to stop me from eating on that side. The new filling was maybe a tiny bit high and neither of the fillings were polished (white ceramic fillings normally get polished once the shape is right). That time I decided to wait a little longer hoping that the pain would go away. Around 3-5 weeks later I was still having pain and was unable to eat anything half crunchy e.g. cucumber, apple, crisps, pizza, etc… I phoned the surgery and requested to be transferred to a different practitioner but let’s say that I was heavily persuaded against it by the receptionist. So, I went back for the 3rd time and just like before they changed my filling hoping for the best. The third filling was again high, not polished and more painful than the second one that they had just replaced. At that point I phoned 111 and I was sent to the Dental Hospital on Sauchiehall Str where they established that I have pulpitis and I’d potentially need a root canal treatment (which significantly shortens the life of that tooth and I could end up losing it). I was in disbelief at how from going into the dentist for a regular check up and finding out that I had a tiny decay, that I then happened to have had 3 fillings done on the same tooth all in the space of a month and I was at risk of losing that tooth. Needless to say that I have now registered with a different practice and I’m not planning on going back. While I appreciate that the dentist was always very careful and I wasn’t charged for any of the repeated treatments, I can’t just ignore that 3-4 months later I’m still having a painful tooth, I can’t eat properly and I’m worried about going to any dentist in case the next treatment I get would result in me losing that tooth. And I feel like a complete idiot that I even paid money to be put in this situation.

Have put off going to dentist for years because my last experience was so awful. Needed to have wisdom tooth removed and couldn’t have asked for a kinder, more empathetic and efficient service. Delighted to have found them. Thank you!

5 stars is for the dentist. The receptionists look a bit angry and unapproachable. They never smile or greet you nicely. I would avoid asking them anything if possible.
Claudia Alexandra Pires
Brilliant dentist vile receptionists No manners and absolutely no regard for the way she speaks to people.

Best dentist I have ever had! James is always so patient with my fears and umpteen questions about what he is doing. I used to be terrified to go to the dentist and can now sit for any treatment.

Great dentist very pleasant Very helpful first class service

I was so scared and Rosie put me at ease and was so caring, explained everything before and during treatment. My son has autism and Rosie was absolutely amazing with him and he wants to go back. I’ve been to many dentists over the years and I highly recommend Rosie. So caring and very professional
