I cannot recommend the dentist as I did not get treatment and therefore cannot comment. But I suggest not visiting this dentist on account of their poor communication, poor customer service and borderline misleading advertising. I walked away with toothache, £81 poorer, having had no treatment. Note this is NOT an NHS dentist. The NHS website lists them (at time of publishing) as taking NHS patients, their own BUPA website says they take NHS patients, I told the receptionist on the phone that I was an NHS patient looking for an appointment ASAP. "No problem", I go in, sit me in the chair, do x-rays and tell me I need a root canal ASAP, oh and by the way, and I quote "we have not taken an NHS patient in 3 years, some children in emergencies, but otherwise no." so it's £81 just for the joy of telling me that and taking x-rays, and it's another £150 now to start the root canal and get you out of pain. Well I didn't have £150 so I walked out in pain, after I paid the £81. I don't in principle disagree with professionals charging for their time, as short as it was (equivalent of £240/hr - excessive in my opinion). What troubles me is how I was lead to that point sitting in the chair and dangled the carrot of taking me out of pain before deciding to share that they absolutely won't do NHS patients. And to even charge for the x-rays! In some ridiculous conciliatory gesture they printed them out on A4 paper, absolutely terrible resolution, completely blurry, as if another dentist would ever be able to use them (as confirmed when I found another dentist). The dentist herself initially suggested one other temporary measure would be to give an antibiotic to treat the infection, but as soon as I said NHS she refused to give me a prescription saying I needed the root canal asap. I explained no other dentist I've called (I had called just under 10) in the area is available at short notice. A shrug of the shoulders, if I change my mind before 3pm I can come back and pay. I won't name the dentist. Anyway she may be the best dentist in the world for all I know, so this may not bother anyone going private. But just beware if you're looking for NHS, look elsewhere. Colosseum, St Albans Dental Clinic on Hatfield Rd saved me in the end. They were amazingly helpful, reception went above and beyond, fit me in to a cancellation in the end, and the NHS dentist went to great lengths get me out of pain. Root canal in progress. A learning experience.
