I have always been ridiculously frightened of going to the dentist, in fact I would say it’s a phobia, but, I was extremely self conscious of the gaps in both sides of my mouth and the fact that I was losing more and more teeth as time went on, so I knew that I had to get something done and quickly. I looked into implants and visited 4 different dentists to find out my options. It soon became apparent that this was going to be a massive job and also very expensive too. I was told that I would need bone grafts and, even then, there was no guarantee that this would work.
As I was now in such a state about the whole thing, I contacted my old dentist, who had moved to Birmingham, who told me about his friend Amit Patel at BDS, who is a specialist in periodontics, and put me in touch with him to see if he could help me.
I made an appointment and, apprehensively, went along to his surgery in Holiday Street, Birmingham. When I walked in I was greeted by Andrea, who I had already spoken to on the phone a few times and who has such a way about her that I now felt like she was an old friend. She immediately put me at ease and introduced me to Amit.
By this time I didn’t really know what was possible but we went through lots of different procedures that he could do to help me achieve the final look that I was so longing for. He was very patient and understanding and didn’t rush me Into anything, in fact it was another 6 months before I actually finally decided to go ahead and made another appointment to talk with him at his surgery.
He took so much time to work out the best, easiest and least costly way that he could help me and, after much deliberation, came up with a method that he could insert the implants in such a way that I would not need any bone grafts at all, making the whole thing quicker and cheaper than I had previously been quoted.
We started the process on May 23rd this year and I had a whole team in there with me. Chloe, the dental nurse didn’t leave my side and let me hold her hand all the way through, reassuring me and making me laugh. I must add that, at this stage I was feeling strangely relaxed and vey much in safe hands.
I was expecting to be very swollen and bruised over the next few weeks and had arranged some ‘downtime’ from work but, nothing. Not a single mark or bruise and better than that, not a bit of pain either.
I left with temporary implanted teeth, which still looked pretty good and I was given very precise instructions on what I should and should not do and told that I could contact them at any time if I had any worries at all.
I had four more appointments for check ups and fittings for my final new implanted teeth and then on 25th September was fitted with the most beautiful, white, shiny teeth you can imagine.
I have had so many compliments from people and am proud and happy to recommend Amit to all my friends and, indeed to anyone who is in the same position as I was.
Andrea and Chloe are amazing and now like old friends. They totally made the whole experience so much easier than I could have ever imagined and, hopefully, all three of them are going to come and visit me at my pub in Stourbridge so that I can make them as welcome as they all made me.
I cannot recommend Amit enough. I would say he truly is the best around in his field and if you are looking for dental implants you should go and talk to him.
Thanks guys, you have given me back my confidence and my smile. X
