Beware the new owners of this practice. I was always very happy with Dr De Bono. I went to see him, Dr de Bono, I thought, on 24/7/25, but was told he is retiring in August. I had my check-up, I later found out, by a Cosmetic dentist but felt this was the worst "check-up" I had ever received: Dr J Jannati put me in the chair, looked in mouth without using implements or assistant/ suction and said my teeth look healthy but I had a little plaque, therefore I would have to see a Hygienist, at £85! This was just to remove a little plaque, which can be done in a scale and polish by a dentist, and is a Band 1 procedure. Dr Jannati had said the bands had changed, and he was not allowed to do a scale and polish in Band 1!!! I later emailed a complaint to the Practice Manager, no response and that email address, deleted soon after. No response from them ever came. Eventually Dr Jannati replied, how appropriate and objective was that when the complaint was about him (?) and said he believes everyone should see a Hygienist every six mths. Well, in all of my almost 60 yrs, I've only seen one once, but my teeth still presented as "very healthy". He made no attempt to resolve this issue quickly and professionally, whereas I had tried, leaving phone and email messages. He told me, "I would not be getting my way!!!" By my way, he means a legal band 1 scale and polish when he has indicated I had a little plaque to remove/ so needed one, which is one and the same: a clean is a scale and polish. It is my right to take my complaint to the relevant Ombudsman, and I have done that. So please be wary when you see claims of excellent care and service. I found the exact opposite. I was vulnerable/ very poorly, I had told him that and gave him a letter confirming it, for my file. What a shame. Is there a decent, professional dentist out there who cares about his or her patients and standard of care more than making money??
I'm adding this note to the reply made by the surgery: you, Far Cotton Dental Service (owner) said it yourself, if my gums were healthy I shouldn't need to see a Hygienist, but Dr Jannati insisted I do. It was his responsibility to remove the plaque, he pointed out, in a scale and polish, which removes plaque. Dr de Bono would always remove plaque during my check-ups, proof is in my medical records, which I have, if I needed it. The NHS, since you mentioned their standards, clearly states a clean/ removal of plaque is done via a scale and polish, which you said I needed, and it is a Band 1 procedure which can be carried out by a dentist. You refused to do it and have been gaslighting me, I feel, ever since. Can I be any clearer?
