I came to see Dr Patel because my bonded retainer I had fitted in my teens in Scotland was broken, and my boyfriend recommended his clinic. During the appointment, not only did he fix the retainer and made it feel better than it ever has but he also gave me advice on my gum health. He pointed out areas I needed to focus on to keep them healthy, and gave me a soft toothbrush to use to keep my gums healthy. What I though was going to be a simple retainer fix turned into a visit where he checked my TMJ - an ongoing problem with clenching my jaw, and a valuable lesson in how to keep my whole mouth healthy. This was the first time we'd ever met, and he noticed how some of my teeth were slightly shifting and tilting in, and how my bottom teeth had become uneven due to my grinding. I didn't even notice this myself. He's made me some plastic retainers to reduce the risk of my teeth moving further.

We noticed early on that our son had a crossbite, and after some research, we decided to visit First Ortho to see if they would be the right fit for us and willing to take his case, as he was quite young.( just turned 6) Our general dentist had told us that most orthodontists wouldn’t even consider seeing him until he was around 7–9 years old. Dr. Patel was very reassuring from the start and confident that beginning treatment early was the right decision to correct the crossbite. Remarkably, within just three months, it was fully corrected! The entire process has been excellent—Dr. Patel is incredibly detail-oriented and genuinely cares about achieving the best possible outcome for his patients. We’re now continuing treatment to monitor our son’s development and help prevent an underbite in the future. I would highly recommend Dr. Patel and the entire team at First Ortho to anyone looking for high-quality, attentive orthodontic care.

A sweet message from my father: I have known Dr Patel (Mahesh) for about 15 years. He initially saw me for an assessment when I was concerned that my smile (gappy and protruding) was hindering my performances as singer/guitarist with our band. His lovely receptionist Julie then encouraged me gently -over about the next 8 months – to go ahead with treatment. And so, approaching 50 years of age I had braces – but it was the best thing I ever did and has helped my performances and my confidence. More recently my daughter has also had treatment from Mahesh and this has helped her immeasurably. She can smile with confidence and is beautiful. I consider Mahesh a true friend, as well as a consummate orthodontist. I love coming to the surgery, the surroundings are like a studio and the music is, as ever, great. Thank you for everything.

I had my braces fitted by Dr Patel and my treatment was completed today. Due to work commitments- it was difficult to have appointments during normal working hours which I had explained from the outset. Dr Patel accommodated me without any problem for my initial consultation which was had on a Saturday and at the time there was no explanation or incline that I'd struggle to be accommodated in future appointments. Since that initial consultation I was never again offered a Saturday appointment and on a number of occasions it was a struggle with booking in appointments with the PA, Harry. Had I known that there would be difficulties getting appointments to fit around my schedule and the continued having to explain my situation- I would have not chosen to go ahead with treatment here... after having my final appointment today and the way in which I was spoken to by Dr Patel himself- I should have taken myself elsewhere. It was clear that Dr Patel was experienced and initially a good rapport was built, Dr Patel took time to explain and care for my teeth as well as taking his time with me. As time went on it was clear that the standards were continuing to decline; Dr Patel was not paying attention to detail and I was continuing to highlight the obvious changes that needed to be made with my teeth. I also feel as if the end of my treatment was rushed, I'm also not entirely happy with the position of my right lateral incisor and believe that care could have been taken and with a little more time this could have been rectified. When my braces were removed - I was booked in for an appointment which was supposed to be had 2 days later to get my retainers and to have the glue properly removed from my teeth. On the day I was due to go back - I received a telephone call to state that my retainers had not been delivered and that I'd have to wait the following week to go back to recieve them. Since it was a whole week later- there was some movement already occuring with my teeth. At todays appointment after Dr Patel had fitted the retainers on my teeth- I had felt pain in an area of my teeth/gum, I also didn't feel as if the retainer felt comfortable in my upper jaw. Considering I had to wait a whole week I would have thought Dr Patel would be more understanding. I had asked Dr Patel if I could wait a while for the pain to subside and hoped that things would have felt a bit more comfortable- the way in which Dr Patel had spoken to me in this moment was absolutely atrocious! It wasn't even a few moments and I was being rushed to take the retainers off whilst I had been still experiencing pain, I also had not even had the chance to try putting the retainers on myself. I had explained to Dr Patel that the pain had not subsided yet, only for his tone to drastically change - he then went on to say that he would be calling the police for trespassing!! This was shocking and extreme and way out of proportion for the actual context. Not only was I inconvenienced in the first place not having received the retainers when I should have, causing my teeth to move, the retainers had not felt comfortable on my teeth and then to be wrongly accused of trespassing when it had only been moments having the retainers fitted to my teeth by Dr Patel. Not in a million years would I have expected Dr Patel to turn in this way. He later apologised but also stated that "but I extended my clinic for you", mind you- I'm a paying customer. After feeling rushed with the fitting of my retainers, Dr Patel wanted and was more concerned with spending a lot more time on taking picture after picture of my teeth than my actual comfort with the retainers. After my whole experience it's clear to see that Dr Patel is more concerned with his image, numbers and looking good than his quality of care to paying patients. Also, speaking to me in the way he did today was shocking, disrespectful and very low. This was my true experience.

My father brought me to Dr Patel almost 20 years ago to have my orthodontic treatment done aged 10-12 years. We had a great experience and results, I still occasionally wear my retainers even now and they fit great! Years later my wife was interested in having orthodontics done too, so of course we came back to Dr Patel. She had concerns about braces and we went for the ceramic ones. Even after having a few teeth removed and pressuring Dr Patel that we wanted to complete the treatment before our baby was due, he managed to complete it within 18 months. In fact, the braces came off the morning before the baby was born. We were very pleased and would always recommend. Dr Patel is really an artist!

The first and second times were not great experiences but, with Dr Patel – from our first consultation I knew we would be able to create my dream smile.
