My daughter, who has disabilities, was referred to Jim Peirson Dentist in Norwich for two teeth extractions before getting her braces fitted. She is naturally very nervous about dental visits, especially after being previously traumatised by an earlier appointment with Jim himself. Unfortunately, our latest visit only made things worse.
When my daughter became upset and scared, Jim showed absolutely no compassion or understanding. Instead of taking the time to reassure her or adapt his approach, he stood there huffing, clearly frustrated, and then walked out of the room, leaving my daughter lying there mid-treatment. He never came back. We left the appointment in shock.
I later sent an email to the practice asking for other options or to see a different dentist, but received no reply. Eventually, I called and was booked with a new dentist named Katie, who I was told was recently hired. Before the appointment, I explained clearly that my daughter has disabilities and would need extra time and patience.
However, when we arrived, Katie was rude and dismissive from the start. It was obvious she had spoken to Jim beforehand, as her attitude was unwelcoming and cold. She said she only had 15 minutes and that the appointment was just to “say hello,” not for extractions – even though my daughter was fully prepared and expecting treatment. When I expressed confusion, she became aggressive, saying my daughter would no longer be treated at the practice at all.
The receptionists have always been polite and understanding, but as for the dentists themselves – the experience has been appalling. There was no compassion, no professionalism, and no care shown toward a vulnerable child.
I would strongly advise anyone, especially parents of children with additional needs, to avoid this practice entirely. Both Jim and Katie showed behaviour that is completely unacceptable in healthcare, particularly when dealing with anxious or disabled patients. AVOID!!!
