Longton Dental Centre genuinely restored some of my faith in NHS dentistry.
I live in Stockport and had spent a long time trying to find an NHS dentist. I contacted around 200 dental practices across Greater Manchester and within roughly 50 miles of Stockport. Around 30 replied. Nearly all of those replies were the same: no NHS availability, but they could see me privately. Only two practices offered me NHS registration at all, and Longton Dental Centre was one of them.
They got back to me within hours, registered me quickly, and booked me in within days, even though I was travelling from Stockport to Stoke-on-Trent. After so many dead ends, that alone was a massive relief.
At my first appointment, Dr Dauwad Arishad was calm, professional and thorough. He examined everything properly, explained what needed doing, gave clear advice, and made me feel like there was actually a proper plan in place. He did not rush me, dismiss me, or make me feel like an inconvenience.
A couple of weeks later, my broken lower molar became infected and painful. I contacted the practice late at night, and the next morning they called me and arranged for me to be seen the same day. Dr Sahiqa Tausif was excellent. She checked the tooth, confirmed the infection, prescribed antibiotics, explained the next steps clearly, and told me that if the pain did not settle, they would bring me back sooner to get the tooth out.
Over the weekend, the pain became unbearable. I messaged again, and on Monday morning they got straight back to me and arranged for me to come in. Even when the appointment situation became complicated, they moved things around and found a way to treat me that day rather than simply sending me away.
The extraction itself was difficult. It was a lower molar with deep roots, and the tooth had to be sectioned/cut before it could be removed. Dr Sahiqa Tausif, Dr Rosa Naranjo and the team handled the procedure calmly, professionally and with real care. Dr Rosa came in to support with the more complex part of the extraction, sectioned the tooth, and got it out safely.
Fatima, the dental nurse, was outstanding throughout. She kept checking that I was okay, made sure I was not in unnecessary pain, helped keep me calm, and went the extra mile during a difficult procedure.
Debbie, Sallyann, Linsey, Lucy and the wider team were also excellent. I may not have every name exactly right, but everyone I dealt with was kind, responsive and helpful. When I started feeling very tired and unwell in the waiting room, the team took it seriously, checked on me, made sure I was safe, and treated me with genuine care. Debbie also called me the next morning to check that I had got home safely and that I was okay after the extraction.
What stood out most was that I was treated like a person. I was an NHS patient, travelling a long way, not in a position to pay privately, and in real pain. They could easily have treated me like a low-priority problem. They did the opposite. They listened, acted quickly, adjusted when things escalated, and treated me with dignity.
This is what NHS dental care should look like: professional, practical, responsive and humane. I am genuinely grateful to Dr Dauwad Arishad, Dr Sahiqa Tausif, Dr Rosa Naranjo, Fatima, Debbie, Sallyann, Linsey, Lucy and the wider team.
If this is how they treat an NHS urgent patient, I would have real confidence recommending Longton Dental Centre to anyone, NHS or private.
