I booked an appointment as I have been experiencing severe tooth and jaw pain, cheek and jaw swelling, foul smell from my mouth, inability to chew food and inability to sleep due to the severe pain of my left lower tooth.
It is the fourth time that I have experienced this, the first time in 2020. For the 3 times this happened, I was prescribed antibiotics (Metronidazole) to address the issue.
The dentist, who BARELY assessed me, just asked me to open my mouth and look at my teeth for few seconds, (no assessment or palpation of jaw or lymph nodes done), immediately dismissed me and it's not infected and I don't need antibiotics. He did not even take an xray but instead, relied on my x-ray on the record, which, if I'm not mistaken is at least 3 years old. I told him that I have been taking pain reliever round the clock for 2 days now (ibuprofen and paracetamol- which could also be masking fever) but the swelling and pain are not subsiding. He said that he can clean it which is not possible as my jaws are cheeks are swollen and I was in severe pain.
He further stated that the dentists who gave me antiobiotics before are WRONG (two from different clinics and one is from Penerly
Dental Clinic) as I came here prevriously for the same condition. The latest was just in October 2024 in an 111 referred NHS clinic. I asked if I could be seen by the same doctor who saw me previoulsy but he said she's retired. I asked if I could be seen by a different dentist but he said I should book for another appointment despite the urgency of my condition.
If what this dentist said was true, that the previous dentists who saw me were wrong, then could you please tell me then why one of your doctors prescribed me antibiotics in the past by one of your previous employees for the same condition?
I went to the receptionist and she told me the same that I should book for another appointment and the receptionist insisted that according to the dentist, it is not infected and she further told me that it's the same for her condition (the receptionist). To the receptionist, you should not be comparing our cases because you don't know my history. I then said that I will go to another dentist and the receptionist told me that I still need to pay despite the low to to almost no service provided. I paid even if it's so undeserved.
There is no patient-centredness and empathy displayed by these 2 employees. The dentist was very dismissive, condescending and did not do proper and complete patient assessment and history taking.
I then called 111 and got immediately referred to a different clinic. The dentist assessed me properly, the tooth, the surrounding tooth and jaw, palpated and assessed my bilaterial jaws and lymph nodes and did an x-ray of the area twice. When x-ray got back, I was told I definitely need antibiotics and he prescribed me Metronidazole.
Had I not gone to another clinic, my condition would be left untreated and would have become more complicated in the next days.
The conduct of the above employees today are extremely unacceptable and does not hold the values that any person working in healthcare field should hold.
The receptionist did not even smile at all. I will never set foot in this clinic again.
PS: I have email, text messages, and receipt for my check up today so please don't deny that I was your patient like you did in the other reviews.
Based on my experience today, I can attest to the other 1-star reviews for this clinic.
