Orthodontist was great but other dental staff are really badly trained. They were going to give me a retainer that would have damaged my teeth before I insisted it be checked. The second visit they gave me incorrect advise that would have damaged the retainer. Staff were short with me and rude. Finally I got the right information when I asked a manager but the dental staff are not trustworthy

I underwent orthodontic treatment at the Quayside branch in Carmarthen back in 2012-2013. This involved premolar extraction and retraction of upper teeth to correct an overbite. At the time, I was not aware of the potential long-term structural changes that would result from this approach. Following treatment, I noticed that my palate felt narrower and my bite had changed. Over the years, I have also experienced increasing difficulty with nasal breathing, contributing to sleep disordered breathing. My intermolar width is now that of a child's (34mm), and I'm an adult. Now 12 years later, I'm having to explore further corrections such as palate expansion, and this is very costly. If you or your child is given the option of premolar extraction and retraction, I would advise you to seek an immediate second opinion from an airway specialised dentist. And ask yourself whether you want to increase the risk of sleep disordered breathing like apnoea or upper airway resistance syndrome down the line. Functional airway dentistry should come before aesthetics. Unfortunately, like many other industries profit has come before health. Edit: Irrespective of whether it was Quayside or not, James Davies was still the orthodontist I saw who directed what treatment I should have (premolar extraction and retraction).
